In late September of 2016, I was able to spend a couple of nights at the Mountaineer's Lodge close to Picture Lake with the Photography Group allowing me to get out for several excursions in the area. We experienced both rain and a lot of fog and mist, but there were periods when Shuksan and Baker were visible, and sunlight. Here is one of the images from the weekend of Picture Lake at sunset with Shuksan under heavy purple cloud cover with mountain ash berries in the foreground. Fall has definitely come to the Mt. Baker area! I love staying at the Mountaineers Lodge this time of the year-there are so many spectacular hikes in the area, one could spend a couple of weeks up here and not run out of things to do.
Staying at the lodge was both a group of photographers and a group of artist painters resulting in a healthy interaction between the groups. The painters generally had a different perspective on the landscape, with a more compressed telephoto like perspective, softer colors that did not shout out at you, changing some colors in the scene especially going to more purple hues in the mountain rocks, and not keeping everything in focus-no focus stacking for this group!
