Lone Tree
Lone trees have always had a special place in my heart. For me part of their attraction is the sense of mystery that surrounds a lone tree. For a lone tree in a farm field, why was this tree spared when most if not all of the others were cut down when the valley was cleared for farms? With the lone tree in a mountain meadow, how did just this one tree establish itself when no others were able to do so? The lone tree is often associated with the Tree of Life, a myth of a tree that connects heaven and earth. When we view a visually compelling lone tree in its surrounding we participate in this mystique and feel this connection between heaven and earth. This gives us greater appreciation of the enduring myth of the lone tree as the Tree of Life.
